50 first dates

Have you seen the movie 50 First Dates?  It’s a romantic comedy where a classic one-night-stand sort of guy named Henry thinks he has found his perfect match when he meets Lucy, a beautiful girl with amnesia.  I’m sure you can imagine the rest; Henry tries to take advantage of Lucy’s inability to remember the previous day but instead ends up falling head-over-heels in love with her.

Because of Lucy’s amnesia though, she is unable to remember what happened the day before.  So in order to keep Lucy up to date with her own life, Henry makes a video for Lucy to watch every morning.  It is very sweet.  You can view the last scene of the movie below:

For some reason I was thinking about that movie the other day and I wondered if this end scene might give us a little glimpse of Heaven?  I don’t believe we will forget what happened the day before, but I do believe there will be so many amazing things to discover that we will wake up each day and be absolutely astounded at the fact that there are more wonders to come.  We will wake up each day with as much excitement and anticipation as if it were our first day there.

Sometimes people wonder how it is possible to be in Heaven for eternity and not get bored.  I believe that is how.  That is exactly how.  Because there will be an infinite number of things for us to discover and discuss and a million people for us to meet and talk to.  There will be singing and praising and rejoicing and when we think it’s over there will be adventures and stories and long journeys to distant galaxies.  Heaven will never cease to amaze us.  But more importantly we will never cease to be amazed by the God of the universe and the greatness He has been planning for us since the beginning of time.

How about you?  What are you most looking forward to about Heaven?  What discoveries are you dying to make or what questions does your heart want to ask?

  • Whitney - 1. I love that movie.
    2. I have a bunch of questions…but the biggest one? That whole free will/God's will thing…how the heck does that REALLY work? 🙂
    3. And, I want to hug a sibling who died for me. And hopefully find out I didn't let them down.
    4. And hug Jesus. (I don't know about the whole "body" thing…but whatever is equivalent to a hug.) 🙂
    5. And, I'd like to hug Evie….after the family all has about 500 years with her….then I'll selfishly squeeze a 2 second hug. 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Rachael Andrews - I think I saw that a long time ago. I am just in love with the idea of finally being with God, entirely present in all three persons. I can't imagine anything more awesome.ReplyCancel

  • Molly - I can't wait for story time! To hear Noah's account of rain for the first time, or Joshua and the walls of Jericho. I have this vision in my mind where we are all sitting like we used to in AWANA and watching our favorite Bible stories being recounted by the men/women that lived them. And maybe a really long nap…ReplyCancel

  • Sarah - I love this Whitney! And you can hug Evie longer than 2 seconds, I promise <3ReplyCancel

  • Sarah - It will be pretty amazing. I can't wait to experience life without all the sin/fallen nature of this world clouding my mind. What will that be like?!ReplyCancel
